New Initiatives

Prof. Rambabu Kodali joined as new Director of NIT Jamshedpur on 3rd August, 2012. Some of the new initiatives taken during the past four years for the Academic Excellence of NIT Jamshedpur are as follows:

  • To enhance the quality of teaching in the Institute, best practices for effective teaching have been introduced. Some of them are: release of detailed academic calendar, course handout which includes course content, objectives of each class, details of text books and references, details of internal and continuous evaluation, details of teaching consultation hour for the clarification of doubts. Tutorials have been started for giving more individual attention to the students. Solutions will be displayed in the notice boards of the respective departments and evaluated answer books will be shown to the students. The 75% attendance for the students in the class has been made compulsory. Code of conduct for the students during examination have been framed and implemented. Modified instructions to invigilators during examination have been implemented.
  • Some of the new initiatives to improve the quality of research activities among faculty and students are: modernization of labs, enhancement of knowledge learning resources in the library, implementation of CPDA, financial support to the students and faculty for innovative projects and presentation of papers in conferences, encouragement of faculty members to organize conferences/workshops.
  • E-governance.
  • "Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship" is initiated to promote the innovations and creativity of students of the Institute.
  • Detailed project report has been prepared for the development of the infrastructure for next 10 years (2012-22).
  • Construction of two Boys Hostel "J" and "K" with 300 seated capacity each and G+6 foundation by CPWD.
  • Construction of Institute campus roads by CPWD.
  • Renovation of existing infrastructure by CPWD: Hostels, Academic Blocks and Residential Quarters.
  • Modernisation of Computer Centre.
  • BOG meetings at NIT Jamshedpur: 18th BOG meeting was held on 17th March, 2013, first time at NIT Jamshedpur.
  • The Student Wellness Centre (SWC) started functioning from Jan 2013. SWC is implementing report/recommendations of the TASK FORCE constitute by the MHRD fro preventing incidents of suicide and promotion of wellness in the CFTIs.
  • Enhanced the consolidated salary of Lecturers (on contract) from Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 37,000/- pm. and Assistant Professors (on contract) from Rs. 33,000/- to Rs. 40,000/- pm.
  • Delegation of financial power to Head of Departments and Deans.
  • Pay-scale fixation of the faculty members who have been financially upgraded/promoted under CAS (5th CPC ).
  • The Institute has started the "Finishing School" programme for academic support to the students. This programme is meant for the students to enhance their academic/learning skills such as soft skills, communication skills, group discussions, personality development and preparation for GATE/IES examinations.
  • Life cum medical insurance for all the students.
  • Welfare of SC and ST students.
  • Workshop on "Implementation of Action Plan for Academic Excellence" of NIT Jamshedpur has been conducted by Prof. Rambabu Kodali, Director of NIT Jamshedpur during 19-21 Dec, 2012 with 125 strength (Faculty+Officers) to devise the path of journey of academic excellence.
  • NIT Jamshedpur takes the pride in introducing the "Industry and Alumni Relations" and headed by the Dean to improve the collaborations with Industry and Alumni.
  • Institute has recruited the Visiting Faculty/Adjunct Faculty, Ad-Hoc Faculty and Technical Assistants to enhance the teaching and research activities.
  • Deployment of 125 Home Guards for the safety and security of the campus.
